Fukaura

Fukaura Station opened on 13 December 1934 as a station on the Japanese National Railways' Gonō Line, serving the port town of Fukaura in Aomori Prefecture. The station has long been the operational pivot of the line: through services are divided here, and every "Resort Shirakami" sightseeing express stops at the platforms. Freight handling ended on 20 September 1980 and parcel handling on 1 February 1984. The station passed to JR East at the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987. The Midori no Madoguchi window closed on 15 March 2024 and the station became unstaffed the following day, with operations transferred to Goshogawara Station.

The original station building burned down in the early morning of 1 April 1963 when a fire at a nearby sawmill spread under high winds, destroying eight station-related structures before the current building was rebuilt the following March.
