Location
History
Atagobashi Station opened on 1987-07-15 as part of the inaugural section of the Sendai Subway Namboku Line, beneath Wakabayashi-ku, Sendai. The location had earlier hosted a Sendai City Tram stop of the same name, opened on 1933-02-12 when the Nagamachi tram line was extended to Atagobashi; the tram stop closed on 1976-04-01 with the rest of the tram network. The subway station is numbered N12, has a single island platform underground, and sits on the left bank of the Hirose River. Platform-edge doors began operating on 2009-11-21, and icsca IC card service started on 2014-12-06.
Notes
Before the subway arrived, the same spot served a Sendai City Tram stop of the identical name from 1933 to 1976, giving the location more than nine decades of nearly-continuous rail transit.
