History

Asuwa Station opened on 20 May 1964 as a petitioned in-fill stop on the Japanese National Railways Etsumi-Hoku Line, between Rokujō and Echizen-Tōgō, in what is today the city of Fukui in Fukui Prefecture. The station has been unstaffed since opening. It passed to JR West on 1 April 1987 at the privatisation of JNR. The Etsumi-Hoku Line was closed between Echizen-Hanandō and Bijuyama from 18 July 2004 to 30 June 2007 because of flood damage from torrential rains, with replacement bus service in the interim. The station consists of a single ground-level side platform with a small shelter and no ticket machine.
