Ashigakubo Station opened on 14 October 1969 on the Seibu Chichibu Line at Ashigakubo in the town of Yokoze, Chichibu District, Saitama Prefecture, operated by Seibu Railway. It became a limited-express stop in 1973, but in March 1998 most limited expresses were diverted to nearby Yokoze and Ashigakubo's stops became seasonal; the remaining "Okuchichibu" runs were withdrawn in March 2003, leaving only sporadic stops. From 1 March 2023 the station was downgraded from staffed to a patrol-only halt, ending counter ticketing and IC-card top-ups on site. Network-wide station numbering made it SI34 in fiscal 2012.

Trains slow as they pass the station during the annual Ashigakubo Icicles winter illumination, one of Chichibu's "three great icicle" sites near the station.
