History

Aoi Station opened on 24 August 2005 as part of the new Tsukuba Express line linking Akihabara in Tokyo with Tsukuba in Ibaraki Prefecture. The station is numbered TX06 and lies underground, with two opposed side platforms serving two tracks. PASMO IC cards became usable here on 18 March 2007. The station sits in a largely public-housing district just inside the Kanshichi orbital road and shares a catchment with Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line's Kita-Ayase Station, which is roughly a 15-minute walk away.
