History

Aki-Kameyama Station opened on 4 March 2017 as the terminus of JR West's Kabe Line, in Asakita-ku, Hiroshima. The station marked the partial reactivation of the 1.6-kilometre Kabe–Aki-Kameyama segment, a stretch that had been abandoned in 2003 along with the rest of the Kabe Line beyond Kabe. The new terminus sits at a different location from the earlier homonymous "Aki-Kameyama" station that closed in 2003 — about 3.4 kilometres away in a straight line — and the kana spelling was changed to distinguish them. The station is barrier-free with no stairs between the ticket gates and platforms.

Notes

To distinguish the new terminus from the older "Aki-Kameyama" (安芸亀山) station that closed in 2003, JR West rendered the "Aki" of the new station in hiragana — "あき亀山" — even though both readings are identical.
